NY1 Visits Queens Drop-In Center

Jeff Scheuer

Vice President, External Affairs

In May, Breaking Ground began seeing clients of our new Drop-In Center in Ozone Park, Queens. Right now, we are seeing up to 10 clients per day at the site, helping them access nutritious meals, respite from the elements, case management and benefits assistance, and working with them toward accessing permanent housing. We will phase in drop-in services over time, expanding to serve up to 75 people per day. We also plan to add approximately 50 Safe Haven beds to help our most vulnerable neighbors experiencing street homelessness to come indoors and work toward permanent housing.

On Tuesday, June 18th, NYC Department of Social Services Commissioner Steve Banks toured the Drop-In Center and spoke with NY1 reporter Angi Gonzalez, who came along for the tour and spoke to clients, staff and Ozone Park residents about the program.

Watch the segment on NY1.
