Inaugural Serving Up Home 2017

On Monday, June 5th at Breaking Ground’s Prince George Ballroom, more than 250 people came together to raise funds and awareness for our outreach and housing programs serving street homeless New Yorkers. Serving Up Home is truly helping us to transform lives.

This year, Breaking Ground is more than doubling our transitional housing resources to better serve the most vulnerable street homeless New Yorkers. This model – know as Safe Havens – brings people indoors and provides short-term homes where each individual can work towards finding permanent housing. Breaking Ground has operated the largest Safe Haven in the City – The Andrews, on the Bowery – since 2009. The Andrews has helped hundreds of homeless people move from the streets into permanent housing. In 2017, we are extending this model to Brooklyn and Queens so that more men and women living on the streets can come indoors. Read more about our new Safe Havens.

Breaking Ground is grateful for the partnership of Michelin Guides and five of New York’s finest Michelin-starred chefs to support our cause. Chefs Mario Batali, Daniel Boulud, Carlo Mirarchi, Günter Seeger, and Michael White created amazing savory dishes and “wowed” the crowd with their culinary skills.

Serving Up Home is a one-night-only event, but its impact goes far beyond one evening. Every $60 raised equals another night of transitional housing for our most vulnerable neighbors. Your gift will help us provide the housing and supports that each homeless individual needs to find a permanent home.  Thank you for giving generously.
