The Bernheimer Architecture-designed Jamaica Residence marks Breaking Ground's first permanent housing in the borough of Queens, and second development expected to meet rigorous Passive House standards. By significantly reducing reliance on municipal energy supplies, the Passive House standard helps push toward a goal of zero emissions in the operation of residential buildings.
Designed for seniors who are exiting homelessness or living on very-low incomes, Jamaica Residence has several features that aim to help residents remain physically engaged, including entrances and corridors that promote active design principles, specially designed outdoor/garden spaces, and accommodations for residents with mobility challenges throughout the building.
In addition, Jamaica Residence will feature a state-of-the-art, 15,000 sq ft Federally Qualified Health Center, operated by our partners at the Community Healthcare Network.
