Built in 1926, the landmark neo-classical revival Betty Ruth and Milton B. Hollander Foundation Center was donated to Breaking Ground by the Hollander family, after lying vacant for several years. Located in the heart of Downtown Hartford, the Hollander Foundation Center represents exciting firsts for Connecticut: it is one of the first LEED-Certified green residential buildings in the State, featuring the first green roof in Hartford, and the first affordable rental housing for families in downtown Hartford in more than 20 years.
Breaking Ground developed the building as 70 affordable residential apartments with 13,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, helping to further Downtown Hartford’s revitalization. The ground floor commercial space is designed to accommodate both established and smaller, start-up businesses.
