Breaking Ground is the largest developer and operator of permanent supportive housing in New York City, with nearly 5,000 apartments under management. Our housing serves people who are exiting homelessness and need support to get and remain stable for the long term, and low-income New Yorkers who may not be able to afford market rents. The fastest-growing demographic among our tenancy is older adults.
On average, formerly homeless tenants of Breaking Ground’s supportive housing sites have annual incomes of just $10,637. As food costs have risen considerably, ensuring food security has become a consistent need and challenge, especially for people living on fixed incomes.
